Paris - France's National Assembly voted by a large majority yesterday to approve a constitutional change reducing the presidential term from seven years to five.
All political parties except the communists supported the change. The vote was passed by 466 to 28, with nine abstentions.
The bill will now go before the Senate on June 28th and 29th and then must be submitted either to a popular referendum or to a joint session of the two parliamentary chambers for final approval.
