Over six months in 1987 some £60,000 went from the Amiens account at Guinness & Mahon bank to Mr Haughey's client account at the accounting firm which paid his bills, the Moriarty tribunal heard yesterday.
A managing partner at Deloitte and Touche, Mr Paul Carty, confirmed that it appeared that some £60,000 in debits from the Amiens Securities Ltd account benefited Mr Haughey's client account at the merged firm Deloitte, Haskins and Sells Haughey Boland. Mr Carty was then a senior partner in the firm.
Mr Haughey was provided with a bill-paying service by a section of Haughey Boland called the Business Services Division from the early 1960s to the early 1990s.
Once a month Mr Haughey's secretary would send a file of invoices and bills requiring payment to the division. Staff there would then calculate the total amount due in respect of those bills and cheques would be prepared to discharge them, drawn on Mr Haughey's current account.
Mr Traynor indicated at the time of the merger between Deloitte Haskins & Sells Haughey Boland and Touche Ross that he would like "a more personal approach" to Mr Haughey's bill-paying than could be provided by a larger firm.
He later indicated he would like someone else to take over.
Deloitte & Touche provided wage roll services for the Haughey farm after 1991. J.J. Stakelum took over paying the other bills.
