Cox's Bazar - At least 60 fishermen were missing, feared drowned, after their boats sank in the Bay of Bengal during a storm yesterday, police and the fishing community said.
"Seven boats carrying 112 fishermen sank in the storm. Fifty-two of them were rescued by other boats but 60 are missing and may have drowned," said Mr Kabir Ahmed Sawdagor, president of Cox's Bazar Fishing Boat Owners' Association. Strong winds and heavy rain swept coastal areas in Cox's Bazar and Chittagong yesterday, hampering work in the country's main port. The meteorology office recorded 250 mm of rainfall in 48 hours.
