Canadian supplier of networking solutions Nortel Networks Corporation has announced the creation of 60 jobs at its site in Galway over the next three years.
The jobs, described as 'high-level', will be at the Corporation's research and development centre at Mervue Business Park.
The company employs almost 1,000 people at locations in Dublin, Galway and Belfast.
More than 300 people are employed at Nortel in Galway, around 650 in Belfast and a further 25 are involved in sales in the Dublin office.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mícheál Martin described the development as "highly significant".
"As well as developing this highly sophisticated software and hardware technology, this investment is an endorsement by a world industry leader that Ireland is a primary location for the company's future research and development requirements," he said.
The Galway facility opened in 1973 and has developed into a world-class R&D centre for leading-edge products for corporate and enterprise customers.
Its primary focus is on multimedia customer contact centres handling communications over the phone, web, email and video and text messaging.
Galway also offers customers a showcase for new concepts and next-generation technologies designed to eliminate barriers to efficiency, speed and performance.
The expansion is supported by IDA Ireland.
