A woman who may require a skin graft after having to burst her way out of a jammed nightclub toilet has been awarded £7,400 damages in the Circuit Civil Court. Ms Geraldine Brearton (22) of Granville Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, told Judge Raymond Groarke yesterday she injured the middle finger of her right hand while freeing herself.

Ms Brearton, whose claim was not contested, said she found herself locked in after going to the toilet. In forcing open the door, she cut her finger and had been left with a scar. The court heard she may require a skin graft.

She had been attending the Roxy Nite Club at the Rose Park Hotel, Kill Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, when the accident occurred in July 1995.
