A Cork man involved in a serious accident while travelling from a disco in Banna, Co Kerry, was awarded £775,000 in a settlement approved by Mr Justice O'Sullivan in the High Court in Cork yesterday.
Mr John McCarthy, from Summerstown Drive, Glasheen, took the action for damages against Mr Diarmuid O'Leary, from Farranlea Park, Model Farm Road. Mr McCarthy was a passenger in Mr O'Leary's car and suffered severe head injuries when the car struck a ditch and went out of control near Banna on July 2nd, 1995. Mr Jim O'Driscoll SC said Mr McCarthy, a former postal worker, is living with his parents who care for him.
