More than 8,000 competitors from over 50 countries paced the streets of the capital today in the 22nd annual Dublin City Marathon.
Almost 3,000 Americans made it to the starting-line on Ormound Quay this morning despite fears they would not travel in the wake of the events of September 11th.
Most of the international runners, and many of those from Ireland, ran for charity. This year's race was sponsored by Adidas for the first time.
South Africa’s Zacharia Mpolokeng won the men’s race in a time of 2 hours 14 minutes and 3 seconds. The best of the Irish was veteran John Griffin who came 13th in a time of two hours 23 minutes and 23 seconds.
The woman’s event was won by England's Debbie Robinson in a time of two hours 35 minutes and 40 seconds. Ireland’s Teresa Duffy was third in a time of two hours 43 minutes and 36 seconds.
