A man who was caught carrying £100,000 worth of cannabis was jailed for eight years yesterday.
Judge A.G. Murphy, jailing Con O'Connell (32), of Charles Daly Road, Togher, Cork, said one of the ways of protecting society from drugs was by imposing very heavy sentences. O'Connell was caught by members of the Cork drugs squad when they searched his car in Togher on November 20th and found £100,000 worth of cannabis in a bag. He had pleaded guilty to charges of possessing cannabis resin and amphetamines for sale or supply at Togher. The sentence would be reviewed in three and a half years.
A man and a woman were arrested last night following the search of a house in Clondalkin, Dublin. £600,000 worth of heroin was seized.
