Over 900 long-term unemployed people will be trained advanced computer technical support agents by next summer as the result of the Fast-Track to Information Technology programme, the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Employment and Trade, Ms Harney, was told at the launch of a new FIT course in Clondalkin, Co Dublin, yesterday.
The programme, launched by the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, last June, aims to train 3,500 long-term unemployed in computer technology skills within three years.
It is supported by 22 companies , including IBM, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Oracle and AIB, to help meet skill shortages.
