This morning I had a letter from a friend in the United States, who had made a great success of a somewhat novel profession which she undertook some years ago, at a time when she could find no other remunerative work. It takes her to all parts of the vast country, and brings her as well to some of the most interesting functions in Europe.
"I have had a very interesting and successful winter, and have been all over the United States. I have done some work for the Theatre Guild, some for the Civic Repertory Theatre in Hollywood, and a good deal independently for myself. While in California I met some very nice and very rich women, and casually mentioned to them that I would like to go on a "theatre debauch" this summer - starting in Berlin, going on to Dresden, Leipzig, Beyreuth, Weimar, Salzburg, and other places; and proceeding to Paris, Malvern, Stratford and London. At once they exclaimed that they would go with me. So I am sailing on 30th June for Berlin, and the whole trip will proceed as outlined."
The "profession" which can secure such interesting and profitable benefits is nothing more than lecturing in advance about forthcoming plays.
