THE following gardai were killed during the course of duty since the conflict in Northern Ireland began 27 years ago.
Garda Richard Fallon: shot dead by republican bank raiders at Arran Quay, Dublin, in April 1970.
Insp Samuel Donegan: killed by an IRA booby trap bomb on the Cavan Fermanagh Border, in June 1972.
Garda Michael Reynolds: shot dead by republicans Noel and Marie Murray at Raheny, Dublin, in September 1975.
Garda Michael Clerkin: killed by an IRA booby trap bomb at Portarlington, Co Laois, in October 1976.
Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne: both shot dead by Irish National Liberation Army robbers at Aghaderry, Co Roscommon, in July 1980.
Garda James Quaid: shot dead by the IRA at Ballyconnick, Co Wexford, in October 1980.
Garda Patrick Reynolds, shot dead by an INLA robber at Tallaght, Dublin, in February 1982.
Garda Patrick McLoughlin: shot dead by a mentally ill man at Dunboyne, Co Meath, in April 1984.
Recruit Garda Gary Sheehan: shot dead by the IRA during the kidnapping of Mr Don Tidey at Ballinamore, Co Leitrim in December 1983.
Garda Francis Hand: shot dead by the IRA during the robbery of a cash delivery van at Drumcree, Co Meath, in August 1984.
Sgt Patrick Morrissey: shot dead by two INLA men after a robbery at Collon, Co Louth, in June 1985.
