Junior Cert: materials and technology: There was no metal involved in yesterday's Junior Cert materials and technology paper for the 6,000 or so students who took the exam but it was described as a very standard paper.
The written exam for metalwork examined students on the theory they have learned over the past three years.
The layout of the paper was complimented by teachers and students, who said it was clear, concise and the diagrams were unambiguous.
Students taking the higher level paper were particularly happy with section B of question one as it was based on a model aircraft which students had constructed earlier this year.
Phelim O' Doherty, ASTI spokesperson on metalwork said: "Anybody who had studied the past papers had a pleasant surprise."
Ordinary level students were also presented with a very fair paper, according to teachers, and it reflected past papers seen by students. For many, it meant their exams ended on a happy note, he said.
