Individual toll schemes for the primary road network contained in the National Development Plan are to be assessed on a case-by-case basis, the AA said yesterday.
The motoring organisation said the Minister for the Environment, Mr Dempsey, had made it clear the schemes would be assessed in this way.
The AA said this was a huge improvement on the initial position of blanket implementation of toll charges on new roads across the State, announced last June.
AA public affairs manager Mr Conor Faughnan said tolls had an automatic consequence of causing diversion and congestion. "We now have it from Minister Dempsey that these consequences will be examined for each and every toll scheme."
