A north Co Louth man who is accused of sexually assaulting his niece in his attic has denied the allegations in court. The jury also heard an allegation by the defendant's wife that she found out the alleged victim had an affair with a 30-year-old man when she was 16.
The accused told Mr Barry White SC, defending, on the third day of the trial: "It never happened. I deny the allegations emphatically and I don't know why she would have made up those fabrications."
The 45-year-old man has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two charges of sexually assaulting his niece between 1986 and 1997. The trial continues.
