An Icelandic man tried to claim diplomatic immunity when he was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, a court was told yesterday.

The man, who is charged with refusing to give a blood or urine sample at Bridewell Garda station on Sunday night last, also refused to give his name or address, Dublin District Court heard. The court was also told that the defendant gave his name yesterday morning after a night in custody. Mr Josef Grimson, of Cedarwood Green, Glasnevin, was arrested at Blackhall Place.

Judge Desmond Hogan released the man on his own bail on condition he sign on at Finglas Garda station every day. He is to appear in court again on February 2nd.
