A High Court action by a man who claims he was sexually abused by Dr Michael Shine during a hospital examination 19 years ago was put back for a day yesterday after a jury was told the 80-year-old doctor is unwell.
Dr Shine is being sued by Ronan MacConnoran (35), who claims he was abused during an examination by the orthopaedic surgeon in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co Louth, in February 1993. His action is against Dr Shine, Drogheda Road, Mornington, Co Meath; the North Eastern Health Board (now HSE); and the Medical Missionaries of Mary, the former owners of the Lourdes hospital.
Mr Justice Eamon de Valera told the jury yesterday there had been “a minor hiccup” because Dr Shine was unwell and the case could not go on yet. He asked the jury to return to court today.
