A new group established by the Government to promote greater levels of volunteerism in society will today begin seeking feedback from the public on how to help create a more vibrant society, writes Carl O'Brien.

The Taskforce on Active Citizenship is to distribute questionnaires aimed at promoting discussion and debate on what can be done to assist or encourage more people to become more involved in society.

The taskforce will also host a number of regional public meetings, beginning in September, to hear the views of individuals, groups and organisations.

The chairwoman of the group, Mary Davis, said the group was interested in hearing a wide spectrum of views.
