Loyalist terrorist Johnny "Mad Dog" Adair is due to be released from prison next week, it emerged today.
The ousted Ulster Defence Association commander has been held at Northern Ireland's high-security Maghaberry Jail since a deadly shooting war erupted on the streets of Belfast two years ago.
With former associates still bent on revenge for the murder of Adair's bitter rival, John "Grug" Gregg, security chiefs are refusing to confirm when he will be freed.
But prison sources revealed that the notorious paramilitary boss is expected to leave the compound near Lisburn, Co Antrim on January 13th after serving two-thirds of his original 16-year sentence.
It will be the third time Adair has been released since his conviction for directing terrorism.
Unlike earlier triumphant receptions when supporters packed around the prison gates to greet their hero, there will be little fanfare this time.
Loyalists who regard Adair as their sworn enemy believe he will want to slip out unnoticed before travelling to Lancashire for a reunion with his wife Gina, who is unwell.
