Sinn Féin President Mr Gerry Adams, launched the party¿s No to Nice campaign today condemning the Government¿s re-run of the referendum as an a lá carteattitude to democracy.

Mr Adams called on voters to come out and vote No to Nice for a second time.

Mr Adams said Sinn Féin favoured enlargement but only on an equal basis. He said the party was "seeking an inclusive EU where all states were treated equally."

Referring to campaigning by the Yes side in the referendum campaign, he condemned what he called the "scaremongering, bullying and negative campaigning" and said there had been very little discussion "on issues central to the long term future of the EU."

Mr Adams called the referendum a "vital vote for the Irish people", adding it was an opportunity to have "a real say in the future development of the European Union."

He said the Treaty of Nice would move decision making "even further away" from the individual citizen and that people were beginning to question what he called "the gradual erosion of our sovereignty and our neutrality".

He said these issues affected not only Ireland but that they "also impact on the applicant states."

Sinn Féin, he said, wanted to see a new EU Treaty based on the concept of the EU as a "partnership of equals."
