THE Sinn Fein president has called on the RUC to disclose the forensic history of the weapon used to kill Mr John Slane in west Belfast a week ago.
While the RUC is understood to believe the UDA was responsible for the killing, Mr Gerry Adams has called on the force to say whether the weapon was used in previous UDA or UVF killings. He also asked whether the British army surveillance post near Broadway where the victim was murdered had video evidence.
UDA sources continue to deny involvement although Sinn Fein says loyalist paramilitaries are adopting a "no claim, no blame" response, so loyalists can argue the Combined Loyalist Army Command ceasefire is holding.
Immediate answers were needed to the questions surrounding the killing and the "refusal of the British government and the RUC to identify the group responsible", said Mr Adams.
"There is a widespread anger in west Belfast about the silence of the political establishments about this killing," he added.
Chief Insp Roy Dunne of the RUC said Mr Adams's suggestion of RUC collusion was "very easy to make". "I can assure the people of west Belfast that every police officer is absolutely dedicated to preventing any tragedy such as this occurring," he told BBC Radio Ulster.
Meanwhile, solicitors have taken statements from people who were in the Derryhirk Inn at Aghagallon near Lurgan when armed men entered the pub last Friday night.
