A £200 a day drug addict who carried out a series of knife point robberies has been jailed by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court at his own request.

Mr Anthony Sammon, defending, said Philip Kerfoot wanted to be sentenced without delay and to have his sentence reviewed in due course so that he could show how he was coping with his addiction.

Judge Cyril Kelly imposed four concurrent sentences of five years each and set August 17th, 1998, to review the sentences. He noted that Kerfoot was costing his victims about £75,000 a year outside prison and it would cost the taxpayer the same to have him inside.

Kerfoot (25), single and a father of one, of Captain's Road, Dublin, admitted robberies of shops, garages and a building society in Blackrock on dates in May and August 1995.
