A drug addict who was given early release after 18 months of a six-year sentence for preying on elderly people in their homes has had his sentence reactivated for committing similar offences.
Martin Anthony Connors (26), of Tulip Court, Darndale, Dublin, was jailed by Judge Elizabeth Dunne at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for six years in January 2000 after pleading guilty to robbery and burglary charges.
He was released in July 2001 on a bond to be of good behaviour but on September 8th last he appeared at Dublin District Court charged with a further seven counts of robbery on houses of elderly people. He had been arrested in Dublin that morning and was remanded in custody at Cloverhill Prison pending his reappearance at the Circuit Criminal Court.
Judge Dunne ordered that the suspension of his original sentence be removed after hearing from Mr Robert Barron, prosecuting, that his new cases were being sent forward from the District Court.
Connors was jailed originally by Judge Dunne after she heard he posed as a Legion of Mary member and used religious pictures while stealing cash from pensioners.
