Aer Lingus is to increase its long-haul fuel surcharges from today blaming recent trends in oil prices.
The fuel surcharge for long-haul flights will increase to from €30 to €40 on flights to New York, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Washington and Dubai, and from €35 to €50 on flights from Ireland to LA and San Fransisco.
Commercial director of Aer Lingus Enda Corneille cited increases in the cost of fuel and the on-going volatility in the oil market as the reason for today's increases.
"We said last May that we would keep our surcharge under review to reflect changes in the price of fuel, and today's decision to increase the charge is consistent with that strategy," he said.
Fuel surcharges on flights to the US and Dubai were introduced on May 15th last year at a cost of €35. The surcharge then increased to €40 on flights to New York, Boston, Chicago and Dubai last July.
