Aer Lingus’ total passenger numbers rose 4.1 per cent last month, according to new figures released today.
The airline, which this morning confirmed it intends to cut 676 jobs as part of a restructuring plan, said it carried 960,000 passengers in September.
The number of short haul passengers flying with Aer Lingus totalled 874,000, a 7.4 per cent increase on the same period a year earlier. However, long haul passengers fell by 20.4 per cent to 86,000.
Aer Lingus’ overall load factor - a measure of how well the airline fills its flights - was 77.5 per cent, an increase of 2.5 points compared to September 2008. Capacity decreased by 7.6 per cent.
Short haul load factor was 80.8 per cent, an increase of 1 point on 2008, with capacity increasing by 7.7 per cent.
Long haul load factor in September was 71.6 per cent, an increase of 2.7 points on the same month a year earlier, with capacity decreasing by 26.9 per cent.
