Finnish choreographer Tero Saarinen wants his dance to "touch the unsaid" and certainly his contribution along with that of compatriot Jyrki Karttunnen left a lingering afterglow at the Aerowaves night in the Project.

Karttunnen's Digital Duende, was danced by the choreographer and Teema Kyytinen, and its minimal lighting and a red felt floor suffused warmth and physical empathy. Sly references to flamenco nurtured movements that rippled through bodies, each performer meandering in and out of unison sequences that constantly changed - organic but never predictable.

The cool detachment of Saarinen's Westward Ho!, set on a white floor and background was in complete contrast. Senses gradually awaken as the three men stride and lunge up and down the stage to the sound of an old English tramp singing "Jesus, blood never failed me yet".

Things get more and more bizarre as the movement parodies Scandinavian folk dance and absurdity replaces elegance. In contrast, the heavy-handed mime and metaphor of Dutch choreographer Nanine Linning's Cardiac Motion, seemed naive and contrived and on the night didn't stand a chance.
