BORD NA MÓNA subsidiary AES is to take over domestic waste disposal in Co Kildare from the county council on August 22nd, adding 25 jobs to the 350 already on its payroll.
AES Bord na Móna would then provide waste management and recycling services to more than 80,000 homes across Ireland, in addition to commercial services to more than 5,000 businesses.
In October, the company also plans to open a €6 million organic waste composting plant in Drehid, near Carbury, Co Kildare, to process more than 25,000 tonnes of household “brown bin” waste annually.
The new facility, claimed to be “the largest and most technologically advanced of its kind in Ireland”, will break down and “bio-stabilise” the organic material, eliminating leachate and greenhouse gases.
Composted organic waste would be then used by Bord na Móna’s horticulture business as a raw material for growing plants, “thus supporting that business in meeting its peat-dilution targets”, the company said.
