Seven-time Grand Slam champion Andre Agassi defeated fellow American Jan-Michael Gambill 7-6 (7/4), 6-1, 6-0 in to win the $6.12 million ATP Tennis Masters Series hardcourt title in Miami yesterday.
Agassi won in one hour and 50 minutes, finishing off Gambill with a forehand winner and losing only one game after taking the first-set tie-breaker.
For third seed Agassi, the Australian Open champion, it was his fourth title here in six trips to the final and his second Masters Series crown in a row. He captured last month's triumph at Indian Wells.
Four weeks before of his 31st birthday, Agassi also became the oldest man to win in the hardcourt event's 17-year history. The Las Vegas resident has won a record 12 Masters Series events.
He rose to 6-2 lifetime record against Gambill, whom he defeated last month in the San Jose semi-finals. Gambill had won 12 of his prior 13 matches and a title last month at Delray Beach, the best stretch of his ATP career.
