Andre Agassi's first-round match

was postponed after rain hit the second day of the men's Atlanta Challenge ATP tournament on Tuesday.

Agassi, who won the inaugural event here in 1992, was due to play French qualifier Nicolas Thomann, but that tie was washed out along with the clash between American Andy Roddick and Dutchman Raemon Sluiter.

Second seed Todd Martin beat Jiri Novak 6-2 3-6 7-6 to win his first claycourt match of the year.

Martin will be joined in the second round by fellow American Michael Chang - a winner here in 1994 and 1995 - who ousted David Sanchez of Spain 7-5 6-3.

In other matches that beat the rain, sixth seed Jerome Golmard of France dismissed American Paul Goldstein 6-0 6-1 and eighth seed Magnus Gustafsson of Sweden beat Alexander Popp of Germany 6-1 7-5.

Fernando Meligeni of Brazil beat Andrea Gaudenzi of Italy 6-3 6-3, Lars Burgsmuller of Germany defeated Jan Siemerink of the Netherlands 6-4 6-3 and Christophe Rochus of Belgium disposed of Russia's Andrei Stoliarov 6-2 6-2.
