A pilot multi-agency training programme on child abuse deaths has been announced in Limerick. It arises from the recent Kelly Fitzgerald case in Co Mayo and involves the Garda, health boards and educational agencies.
Mr Ger Crowley, assistant chief executive officer at the Mid-Western Health Board, said it was clear that there was a need for greater co-operation. The pilot programme would be addressing some of the issues.
It was to be centred in Nenagh, where considerable study had already been undertaken on the subject.
Mr Kevin O'Farrell, childcare manager for North Tipperary and East Limerick, who is in charge of the project, said they planned to train multi-agency leaders who would develop the programme.
These would come from the Garda, schools and health boards, as well as Mol an Oige in Nenagh.
