Washington - An international conference on the return of Holocaust-era assets ended here yesterday with commitments from 44 countries to return Nazi-confiscated art and property and to settle unpaid insurance claims within two years.
Delegates agreed on an 11-point plan for the restitution of stolen artworks although the principles are non-binding and allow for a return of paintings and other pieces in accordance with national laws.
Participants also expressed support for an international commission chaired by the former US secretary of state, Mr Lawrence Eagleburger, that is seeking to settle insurance claims within the next two years.
