The Taoiseach, Mr Ahern, expressed anxiety over the continuation of paramilitary "punishment" beatings when the met the Sinn Fein president, Mr Gerry Adams, in Dublin yesterday.
The two met in Government Buildings to discuss ways of breaking the logjam in the peace process. According to a Government spokesman last night, Mr Adams told the Taoiseach he was "totally opposed" to these attacks, which have grown in number in recent times.
