Ahern in Croatia for EU enlargement talks

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will be in Croatia today to hold talks with Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in Zagreb.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern will be in Croatia today to hold talks with Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in Zagreb.

The discussions will cover EU enlargement, the situation in the western Balkans and the development of economic relations between Ireland and Croatia.

A spokesperson for the Taoiseach said the relationship between the two countries was "greatly strengthened" last year when Mr Ahern and Mr Sanader worked together on Croatia's objective of becoming a full EU member.

The European Union formally agreed to open accession negotiations with Croatia in October 2005.
