The Taoisech has attended a brief ceremony to mark the 25th anniversary of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC).
Mr Ahern was presented with a set of specially commissioned pair of cufflinks when he visited the centre's office on Lower Leeson Street.
The centre provides a 24-hour Crisis Line, which received 15,717 counselling calls during 2003 - the centre's most recent figures.
Trained volunteers accompanied 205 victims to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit in the Rotunda Hospital over the same period and attended court hearings.
