The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is to deliver a speech to leading figures from the business world in Co Wicklow later this month in what could be one of his last official last official functions.

Mr Ahern is due to make the keynote address at the prestigious Irish Management Institute (IMI) conference in Druid's Glen on April 27th.

It is widely believed that the Taoiseach may call an election within days of the Dail returning from its two-week Easter recess on April 24th.

A Thursday polling day on May 17th or 24th seems the most likely date the Dublin Central TD will go to the country.

In what would be seen as a high-profile pre-election engagement, Mr Ahern is to address 200 chief executive officers of the country's top Irish and multi-national companies at the IMI conference.

"The Taoiseach will present an overview of the Irish business and political context and discuss issues of importance to Irish business," an IMI spokesman said.

Other keynote speakers at the two-day event include ex Finland premier Esko Aho, Aer Lingus CEO Dermot Mannion, Enterprise Minister Micheal Martin and management guru Sir Gerry Robinson.
