An investigation into the shooting dead of a British aid worker in Jenin refugee camp has confirmed that Iain Hook was killed Israeli gunfire, according to Israeli public radio.
Hook (53) was shot by accident when he left his caravan with a mobile phone in his hand, an initial investigation by the Israel Defence Forces has found.
"From the first results of the inquiry, it appears that the shots came from the Israeli side, and that a soldier fired in error at the employee," Israel Radio said today.
Israel radio said Hook was "hurrying out of the building, a mobile telephone in his hand, [and] a soldier thought it was an attempt to attack the soldiers".
The UN has expressed serious concerns about at the killing of the leader UNRWA reconstruction project in the Jenin camp and has accused Israel of delaying an ambulance trying to reach the man.
Last night the UN Secretary General Mr Kofi Annan said he was "deeply disturbed" by the death of Mr Hook
A young Irish woman Ms Caoimhe Butterly (23) was shot in the thigh by an Israeli soldier at the Jenin refugee camp yesterday and s recuperating in hospital.
