Passengers travelling from Dublin Airport this weekend have been warned to arrive early due to ongoing delays at check-in there due to a heightened level of security.

The airport has tightened its security protocols within the past week after officials carrying out an audit at the airport managed to smuggle through objects including a knife and a fake bomb.

Intending travellers should arrive at least 90 minutes prior to their scheduled departure. This weekend is expected to be particularly busy at Dublin Airport.

A number of weekend sporting events may also bring some traffic congestion around venues, including a busy Croke Park, which hosts the rescheduled National Football League Division One semi-final between Armagh and Mayo on Sunday.
