A SHANNON-based aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility is set to expand the range of services it provides after being granted status as an official design department, allowing it to design and approve minor aircraft repairs.
The engineering department at Shannon Aerospace Ltd has received official certification for the process, which will reduce the need for part replacements, saving time and money for airlines.
The design department now forms part of the Lufthansa Technik European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 21J Design Organisation.
Founded in 1989, Shannon Aerospace, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG, specialises in the provision of base maintenance services to the world’s airline industry, with Lufthansa as its primary client.

The company employs 783 people, including 137 trainees, at its Shannon facility.
The approval certificate was officially signed at the Shannon Aerospace facility following a visit by Bernhard Conrad, head of Lufthansa Technik (LHT) Design Organisation, and Dr Dagmar Elten, manager of Lufthansa Technik Quality Design Organisation.
Richard Anslow is the first Shannon aerospace engineer to receive structural design authorisation following his successful completion of both theoretical and practical training in Shannon and Hamburg.
