Passengers travelling through Dublin Airport have given 19 Irish charities a Christmas present worth thousands of euro.
Passengers donated more than €47,000 in loose change and foreign currency in the charity collection points around the airport over the past six months.
Out of the funds collected a cheque for €5,000 is being sent to children's charity Barnardos, St Vincent de Paul and a Dublin airport organisation, Air Concern, which aids smaller groups around the capital.
Robert Hilliard, director of Dublin Airport, said: "I must commend and thank all the passengers travelling through Dublin Airport who have donated so generously. I've no doubt that all the donation cheques will be well received, particularly at this time of the year, by these very worthy charities."
The charity collection points are emptied at least twice yearly and donations are sent to charities on a rotational basis.
Cheques for €2,000 are also going to be sent to charities including - St John's Ambulance, St Mary's Hospital, St Michael's House, St Paul's Special School, UNICEF, Irish Tourist Assistance Service, Volunteer Stroke Scheme, Woman's Aid, Asthma Society of Ireland, DSPCA, Irish Haemophilia Society, Samaritans, Woodville Educational Trust, CARI, Footsteps and the Meningitis Research Foundation.
