A prominent leader of Albania's Islamic community was shot dead in his office in the capital Tirana today, it has emerged.
The body of Mr Sali Tivari (58) secretary general of the Islamic community was found this morning with "numerous bullets wounds", said Mr Ervin Hatibi, a Muslim community spokesman said.
"The murder probably happened before the start of the working hours of the office, and that is why no one was at the premises of the community," Mr Hatibi told reporters.
The police have surrounded the premises, situated close to the Albanian parliament building, but refused to give any details before the end of the investigation.
Around 65 per cent of Albania's population of three million are Mulsim, 25 percent Orthodox Christian, and Roman Catholics make up about 10 percent.
