Telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel may reduce its workforce beyond the 34,500 job cuts already announced for 2002, chairman Mr Serge Tchuruk said.
"There will probably be additional action plans, subsidiary by subsidiary, depending on market conditions," Mr Tchuruk said.
It is not certain if further job cuts are planned at the company’s bases in the Republic.
The company let go of 90 people in Cork and Shannon in February of this year as part of a global restructuring.
