Former international striker John Aldridge today admitted he wants to manage the Republic of Ireland.
Aldridge, who played 69 times for the Republic, has been linked with the job following Mick McCarthy's resignation on November 5th.
The ex-Liverpool star told Sky Sports 1: "When I was manager of Tranmere I said that one day I would love to manage my country. If I was asked to I would love to."
The 44-year-old still believes the Republic can be a world force in football despite the infamous bust-up between former captain Roy Keane and McCarthy before the World Cup which split the team apart.
He added: "We have the players to perform on the big stage. After Jack Charlton took the job there was a great spirit in the camp. When Mick [McCarthy] took over he made changes and brought in in younger players but the spirit remained high."
