Eccentric musical machines created in the 1950s by French brothers Bernard and François Baschet went on view at the Ark in Dublin yesterday to the delight of many young people.

"They are just so excited," said Leanne Willars as her two daughters, Sofia (nearly 2) and Eleanor Fox (4), banged the "sonic sculptures" with drum sticks.

The "Ark of Noise" exhibition is part of a summer festival running at the Ark, the Children's Cultural Centre in Dublin's Temple Bar, from this Saturday until Saturday, August 12th.

The festival includes workshops for young people. Up to 7,500 children between four and 14 are expected to visit.
