The death of a man in a collision with an ambulance in August last year was blamed in court yesterday on those who planted the massive bomb in Omagh the previous day. Mr Gary White (37), of Newtownards, died when his car was struck by an ambulance carrying one of the injured Spanish children to the Ulster Hospital at Dundonald.

Yesterday at Belfast Crown Court, sitting in Antrim, the ambulance driver, Mr James Entwhistle (64) from Windmill Heights, Enniskillen, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Judge Anthony Hart said the accident was caused by the ambulance driver's view being obscured.

Imposing a fine of £750, he said the exceptional circumstances justified the court in dispensing with disqualification from driving.
