Dublin-listed oil and gas company Aminex said today it will soon start drilling at its offshore field in Tanzania.

In its latest exploration update, Aminex said a rig is now in place and drilling will soon start at the first well in the Nyuni oil and gas field. The underwater drilling is estimated to take around three months and reach a total depth of around three kilometres.

Aminex chief executive Mr Brian Hall described the start of the start of the drilling operations as a "milestone" in the exploration of offshore Tanzania which the company considers to be an emerging oil and gas region.

After the Nyuni well is finished, the rig will be moved to the nearby Okuza Island where a second well will be drilled to test a separate structure.
