Luanda - At least two people starve to death each day in the central Angolan city of Huambo, humanitarian agencies said yesterday, noting that children were the hardest hit by malnutrition.
"Displaced farmers are prepared to grow food, but promised earth, seed and tools are not available, which threatens the agricultural campaign and thus food security," the agencies said in a joint statement.
"The humanitarian situation in the country is really serious," the statement said.
The government has set up a programme to provide shelter for some two million people who have fled to Huambo from fighting in the area between government and rebel forces.
