London - A British animal rights protester died yesterday after a hunger strike lasting several months, the prison service announced.
Barry Horne (49) who was serving 18 years in jail for firebomb attacks, died of liver failure, a prison spokeswoman said.
He had been transferred from a maximum-security jail in central England to hospital on Thursday with liver problems.
Mr Horne, who was probably Britain's most well-known animal rights protester and campaigner against experiments on animals, had staged several hunger strikes, one of them lasting 67 days.
