New York - The UN Secretary General yesterday urged rich nations to end all their trade barriers on exports from poor nations as one of dozens of ways to pay for global development.

Mr Kofi Annan, in a report recommending 87 different measures to meet the developing world's financing needs, also said poor countries should have the power to prevent short-term capital flows in times of crisis.

His campaign is to push governments, corporations and international organisations to help the poorest nations and their citizens to share in the benefits of globalisation. It will culminate in a UN conference on financing for development next year.
