Total annual labour costs per full-time employee in the industrial sector were €33,768 in 2000, according to the Central Statistics Office.
The Labour Costs Surveypublished this morning shows costs per full-time employee in distribution were €25,403, €19,872 in the hotels & restaurants sectors, €35,828 in transport, storage & communication, €42,822 in financial intermediation, and €39,952 in business services.
The corresponding hourly labour costs were €17.99 in industry, €14.03 in distribution, €10.91 in hotels & restaurants, €18.14 in transport, storage & communication, €24.59 in financial intermediation, and €22.24 in business services.
The previous survey of labour costs related to 1996.
Between 1996 and 2000, total annual labour costs per full-time employee increased by 25.9 per cent in industry, 16 per cent in distribution, and 14.4 per cent in financial intermediation.
The largest increase was in the business services sector, which shows an increase of 50.3 per cent from 1996. The hotels & restaurants, and transport, storage and communications sectors were not included in 1996.
The Labour Costs Survey 2000 report presents the results of a survey of labour costs for the year 2000.
In addition to wages and salaries, labour costs include items such as social security payments by employers (both statutory and voluntary), benefits in kind, training costs, and recruitment costs.
The survey covered all enterprises in the industrial, distribution, financial intermediation, hotels & restaurants, transport, storage and communications, and business services sectors which had 10 or more employees in 2000.
