POLICE IN Northern Ireland yesterday made a further arrest in the inquiry into the murder of Paul Quinn in Co Monaghan last year. Mr Quinn (21), from Cullyhanna, south Armagh, was beaten to death by a masked gang after he was lured to empty farm buildings across the Border in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, on October 20th.
A spokesman for the PSNI said one man was arrested and two properties were searched in south Armagh yesterday morning in what he described as the third phase of the investigation into Mr Quinn's death.
The spokesman said the searches, as with previous operations last week, were carried out at the request of An Garda Síochána.
Three men - aged in their 20s and 30s - arrested by gardaí last Tuesday were released without charge on Thursday night. Three men arrested in the North on Thursday were also released at the weekend. Two other men had earlier been arrested and later released by the PSNI.
A total of 11 people have been arrested in the past week in connection with Mr Quinn's murder.
An inquest into his death was opened in Dundalk last month but was adjourned due to the ongoing police investigations.
In May, the Independent Monitoring Commission found that the IRA did not kill Paul Quinn although "local members or former members" of the group were involved in his murder.
The commission said it believed "a number of people were involved in the incident although they did not all necessarily play a part in the actual killing".
