Anti drug groups plan GPO protest

About 500 people took part in an anti drugs march in Dublin's north inner city last night

About 500 people took part in an anti drugs march in Dublin's north inner city last night. They marched on the homes of three alleged dealers. Outside one flat in Gardiner Street a woman was warned that she would have to leave the area unless she evicted her son, who is said to be a dealer.

Before the march the two main anti drug groups in the city issued a statement complaining of Garda "harassment" of anti drug activists. ICON (the Inner City Organisations Network) and COCAD (the Coalition of Communities Against Drugs) said the Garda were "on the verge of committing the same mistakes as were made in the eighties, i.e. attacking the peaceful grassroots movement".

The organisations are planning a protest meeting about Garda activities on Saturday outside the GPO in O'Connell Street.
